Thursdays Together
Description
Thursdays Together is a time for kids and their grownups to gather at the library for some summer fun! Join us each week from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the Library Park (unless otherwise noted).
Schedule:
May 28: Dig Into Diggers
Dig into summer by seeing big diggers up close! Littles and their grownups who are interested in diggers can take a look at the inside and outside of excavating equipment courtesy of Auburn Street Department. Stick around for related crafts, games, and sensory stations. This will be held in the McKenney-Harrison Elementary School parking lot and green space across Van Buren Street from the Library.
June 4: We Dig Mastodons
DeKalb County was once home to mastodons! We know this because millions of years later, the people who lived here were able to dig up their bones and other things that were left behind by the animals and people who lived here before us. Can you find the dig sites on the Big Map? Stick around for related crafts, games, and sensory stations.
June 11: Unearth a Story with Merry Lea
Beneath every step we take lies a world waiting to be discovered. In this guided adventure, learners will explore how soil, plants, and animals work together to shape the planet we call home — and how we can be sustainable contributors to these natural processes. Let’s dig deeper, get our hands “dirty” in the discovery of compost and uncover the wonders the earth holds!
June 18: Digging into Paleontology with Science Central
Science Central will be here to help us become junior paleontologists as we explore fossil models, observe prehistoric footprints, and uncover the story of Indiana’s prehistoric life. This interactive program builds observation and inquiry skills while sparking curiosity about life long ago.
June 25: Can You Dig It?
This week we will dig up some artifacts and see what kind of work archaeologists do to help us learn about our past stories!
July 2: Colonial Crafts
Our national 250th birthday is in two days, so what better time to try out some skills that our colonial ancestors would have used. There will be stations set up where kids and their grownups can try making a corn husk doll, writing with a quill pen, making a tin-style lantern, creating a silhouette portrait, making butter, trying your hand at cross stitch, or making a basket.
Summer 2026 READ. DO. EXPLORE.: When Dinosaurs Ruled the Library runs from May 28th through July 5th.
